Sigh of relief:
Southern Kentucky Hospital Quarantine Lifted
Test Results Expected Today Following Hospital Quarantine
27NEWSFIRST & WYMT Mountain News have learned that Marymount Hospital in London is no longer under quarantine.
According to Dr. Rice Leach, the state health commissioner, there is no public health indicator to continue a quarantine.
However, hospital officials made the move Tuesday evening after admitting a patient who believed to be infected with small pox.
According to Dr. Leach, the patient's belief is most likely to be unfounded.
There has not been a case of small pox in the United States in fifty years.
The CDC has been contacted.
Officials there believe it is highly unlikely for the patient to have small pox.
However, tests are still being administered
The quarantine has been lifted, and people are now allowed to leave the hospital.
We'll continue to bring you the more details on this breaking news situation as information develops.
See what I mean about skeptical?
Don't sigh relief just yet.
This just raised more questions. From your article:
"after admitting a patient who believed to be infected with small pox."
"According to Dr. Leach, the patient's belief is most likely to be unfounded."
Why would the PATIENT think he had smallpox??? And based on what the patient believes, the hospital locks down?
Test results are not back yet.
That news report about the quarantine being lifted while testing is still proceeding sounds odd...maybe the big cheese there has felt some pressure from the corporation running the place. Statisically, yes, the odds are against it being smallpox, but if they are wrong that hospital corp could get blown out of the water....$$$$ is talking loudly down there.
Interesting that they didn't say what it was, just that it's not smallpox...
