For what it's worth, the navy does have flight training schools in the dessert. Remember Top Gun? I'm not sure where Miramar is in relation to this, but it is not unusual for the Navy to have air operations in places other than oceans. Having said that, it certainly does seem odd. On one of the earlier threads I believe there was talk of radiation detecting helicopters flying around ports and major cities. I think the detecting device is sort of a cylinder suspended from a helicopter. Is that right? Could that be what this was? Maybe a training excercise if not actually searching for radiation?
