The City Council of Hamtramck, Michigan approved an amendment to the city's noise ordinance to allow the Muslim call to prayer over loudspeakers 5 times daily, from 6 a.m. - 10 p.m. The new ordinance takes effect May 26. Nonie Darwish writes the following:

Well is anyone DOING anything about this??? I have just come off a 2 hour discussion of related issues. I will admit I work very hard, through letters to newspaper editors , phone calls, etc, and I feel I am carrying the ball for 1,000 people who sit back and say/do nothing. I am frustrated by this...

We are expected as Americans to make ammends for the abuses and illegal actions carried out by the guards in Iraq. Those acts were already under investigation by our government (the suspects were the ones who released the photos).

Our government was doing right even if some agents of our government were doing wrong. America takes the hit and must try to make it clear that we did not condone the actions.

Muslims lead a battle of Islamfascist brutality and other muslims say, "that's not a reflection of my faith".

You may have just hit on the solution. With 6am and 10pm prayer broadcasts, they could affect the habitat of animals. Find an endangered bird or mouse that has its' numbers dwindle from this. Get PETA, Sierra Club, and all of the other leftists to wage this battle against noise pollution.

I'm not a citizen of Michigan so I have no elected representatives in that town or state.

I can keep watch for similar activities in my area.

I can also withhold my vacation dollars from such communities. I don't want to receive a 6am wakeup call. I don't plan conventions but I am sure that others may feel the same way.

I am already aware that those in talk radio know of this ongoing case even if they have not broadcast its conclusion.

The ACLU goes MIA a lot. They are not an organization I respect or admire but they can be made to take a stand for or against this change in the law.

live in a neighborhood with a large Muslim population. No loudspeakers here. The Muezzin just stands out on the avenue in front of the Mosque (a former movie theatre) and does his wailing.

Why can't they just do a group call on thier cell phones. Sure, one or two of them may blow up, but at least Islam could crawl its way into this century.
