Yeah the General is good, but nowadays you earn respect in irak by sawing the head off an american.

Great news - but the national TV news will ignore it - in fact, they will look for stories to spin (lie) that say the exact oppposite thing.

"We can make them (Americans) use their rifles against us or we can make them build our country, it's your choice," Latif told a gathering of more than 40 sheiks, city council members
So they are finally getting it. We're not leaving until the job is done. If you want us out, let us finish our job without trying to kill us and we'll help you build your country. Why the hell could they have not understood this earlier. This is exactly what President Bush had in mind from the get go.

"Retired Maj. Gen. Mohammed Abdul-Latif This guy seems to get it."
Yup, He sure does. Thanks for posting this.
Well it's a start. Before now no one was saying the correct things. I hope he knows deep down that he needs to says this a lot.
I think how hard and dangerous this is for him to say considering what position he once held before we took out Saddam. Lets hope it catches on.

Interesting. We have a Saddam-era Iragi general who supports our troops, while 49 democrats and Ron Paul refuse to sign a decree to support our troops.
Go figure that?
To: toolbreaker
This shows how low the Democrats have sunk.
A former Saddam Major General makes more sense and shows more support for the troops-than Kerry and the Democrats.
To: toolbreaker
I agree, I think he's on the wagon. Increasingly, bringing him into Fallujah looks like a brilliant move . . . so far.

This guy seems to get it.I hope to God you are right. Is it just me, or is it true that IED attacks have slowed in the last couple of weeks?
To: toolbreaker
Latif has spent some time talking to the Marines and he's figured out that we really aren't there to turn Iraq into a colony. This is something the Iraqis in Fallujah feared. They also feared that we would just turn it over to the majority and leave. He now knows that we intend to see to it that all Iraqis are equal.
He's letting the tribal leaders know this and making them understand that in a fight they will lose but if they cooperate we go home.
It's what we've been telling them but they didn't believe it until one of their own verified it.

(If Kerry can't deal with the "Republican Attack Machine" how is he going to deal with Al Qaeda)
To: toolbreaker
Sounds like a rare rational, intelligent, and reasonable voice from the Iraqi side. Very likely to be targeted for elimination by the "Freedom Fighters."

Is there any coincidence that Maj. Gen. Mohammed Abdul-Latif was a member of Saddam's Republican Guard...

And could play a prominent role in the growth of neo Republicans in the new Iraqi GOP?

Spain bombing redux?
Seems to me the terrorists are killing Iraqis and making a mess so that Kerry will pass.
To: toolbreaker
Gee. If only a few more Americans (re: media and 'Rats) felt this way.

"They were brought here by the acts of one coward who was hunted out of a rathole - Saddam - who disgraced us all," Latif said. "Let us tell our children that these men (U.S. troops) came here to protect us."It's a start.
Now let 'em pass the word fast before we pack it in and leave the Iraqi people to sink or swim -- ON THEIR OWN.
To: toolbreaker
Ok this guy has my attention. If we is quoted accurately, I'm very impressed.

A voice of reason!
I can't believe how stupid these Iraqis are who are opposing the US forces that liberated them from Saddam.
They don't realize that if the US forces pull out, Iraq will turn into a total hell hole.
