What makes some Catholic church clergy and officials do these things? Are they that naive? Is it P.C.? What?
I couldn't say for sure. I believe, yes, they WERE naive...and PC definitely comes into play. They told me that they wanted to build "cultural bridges". A worthy cause, I told them. But in light of the facts that now have been made known, it would be detrimental to continue building bridges with a group whose values run soooooo contrary to our own. I allowed for ignorance with the Diocese. After all, many of us are just now waking up to the reality of the situation. I informed the Diocese that they can no longer claim ignorance of the facts concerning the members of this mosque. I can assure you that I detailed and documented the offensive and problematic statements very, very well. In the meantime, I have continued to compile information about the Islamic Center and its members. I've come up with an extremely disturbing picture of the group. I realize a great deal of money was spent on this cable series. I'm sure it is a factor. Sadly, I believe that arrogance plays a huge part in the decision to continue the relationship with this mosque. Msgr. Hartmann has known Faroque Khan for over 10 years. I My letter to the Bishop stated, in response to this statement of his, that Msgr. Hartmann should discovered the truth about Khan himself.
I don't want to understate this last point at all because it is significant. The Diocese is also ignoring Cong. Peter King. As I stated, King has been very vocal in condemning the remarks made by the member of the Islamic Center. The Diocese certainly doesn't live in a bubble. One would think that the comments of this public figure, who sits on Homeland Security, would carry some weight. Arrogance.
