Check out our little adventure with RaceBannon in Hartford, CT last night. Race's report is in #1, ours in #66.

I was thinking about you and your lovely family whom we met at CPAC in January last night... (One of your girls had a question for Ann Coulter) Last night at this debate, we had a liberal family sitting in front of us with two boys, ages approximately 11 and 13. The younger boy's question was asked during the question period: "Do you think Rumsfeld should resign?". When his question was asked, there were high-fives all over the place. They clearly hated every comment from Ann, and cheered over anything Franken said. So sad, to see parents bringing up such liberal kids...

Thank you for the excellent summaries, and the thoughtful insights. Your description is in sharp contrast to a recent event where Dinesh D'Souza spoke locally at Davidson College near Charlotte, NC. The crowd was mixed; students and locals, young and old, liberal to conservative. But...the crowd was respectful, (to have been otherwise would have been uncouth, and is simply not done) and Dinesh shone in this civil discussion.

We would have a difficult time returning to the blue states, unless we returned as missionaries...

There was an article in the WSJ two weeks ago about "Leftport, CT" (a.k.a. Westport). You may have seen it. My parents still live there. My Dad gets so depressed when we discuss politics, because he is so isolated in a sea of leftists. It's the way that many of us felt before Fox News and FR and all the rest. You feel isolated, as though virtually no one thinks the way that you do, so while you believe that you are right, there is not a whole lot of affirmation out there.

Of course, I cheer my Dad up pretty quickly, telling him about the latest cases won by FIRE or the Rutherford Institute, sharing briefings from Heritage, CATO and AEI, explaining the work of ISI and NAS and so forth, but it's clear that I need to get him networked with other Conservatives in the area. If y'all would ping me or FReepmail me when there is an event or get together up there, I'll try to connect him.

On another encouraging note for Conservatives, TJ Rodgers was successfully elected to the Board of Trustees of Dartmouth!
