As I said, I'm no neurosurgeon: I wanted this in the general forum but I somehow managed to post it to news!

That's OK..LOL...they've left you alone,because it's a slooow news day....

FYI..when they made these changes, and instituted the new forums, some of the more popular ongoing daily threads, liek ATRW, Freeper Foxhle, Poetry corner, were "exiled" or is it "banished" there from News"..we who were sent into oblivo refer to those forums colectively, as THE DARK SIDE..

I was able to avoid that by working hours opposite my husbands, something a lot of mothers can't do. I worked a half-shift overnight a few days a week at a local retailer. I can't remember having missed work because of my kids, but as I said, I was in an unusual situation. People always find SOMETHING to kvetch about, that's for sure! Unfortunately, apart from ignoring them, there's little else one can do.

The first time I really, really felt like a mom was my oldest boy's first day of school. I honestly thought I would stroke out before the bus brought him home!

The one thing I was hoping NOT to see on a thread like this was male-bashing. Quit making it difficult, my friend. Go find another sandbox to pee in!

I think it makes sense, though. Narrows the search a bit. When I want some light-hearted fun (or basically anything else that doesn't have the usual carnage) I know to head for chat.

Could I be on your "Mommy List", please?

And the answer to the question: The first time I felt like a mother was a week or so after my oldest son's birth. We were home from the hospital finally, and I was beginning to believe that I would survive the sleepless nights and I was beginning to get the hang of breastfeeding. We were sitting by the open window, and I was burping him after nursing him, when he raised his tiny head off my shoulder when a bird sang outside the window. He had such an alert, questioning look on his little face. I'll never forget the rush of pure love and joy I felt at that moment. That's the moment I truly became a mother.

>>I took yesterday off to take my son to the doctor and someone else here complained how she couldn't take off because she doesn't have any children... it's not fair... waaawaawaa<<

When I was single, I used to volunteer for every holiday so women with kids could be with them.
The women who b!tch about mothers taking the day off are the same ones who are so into their careers that they come to work with strep and infect the rest of us.

The interest you are receiving is a good sign.

Get your ping list started ..... I used notepad and started a new document called "Poetry Ping List". Start by adding names of people that you know are interested and keep adding to it as others come to the thread or show an interest. All who post the Friday thread should use the same ping list.

I had a lot of help with Amy's Place. St.Louie1 and Billie built the main page that I post three times per week. MamaBear and Billie make the Welcoming graphics for me to use. It is a team effort.

I think I would use post #1 to announce the theme for the week IE: homeschooling vs public schools. You could also add a graphic to this post.

I would leave the original thread the same each week until someone feels like tackling the job of doing a new one. How about something on the main heading like pictures of mothers with their children (different ages)? You may want to highlight some of the things that you will be discussing in the future. After all of these subjects have been discussed, maybe change the text on the main heading to include new topics.

I hope that helped a little. You will need several committed Freepers to help keep it going. It is easy to burn out when only one person tries to do everything over an extended period of time.

Personally I think it's a splendid idea. I can see it serving a noble purpose in affirming motherhood and helping mothers to do a better job, find solutions to little problems before they become large problems. Celebrating family (including husbands). Of course, I'm waaaayyy beyond motherhood, but I will be a Grandma soon.

I bet we'll be calling on you for advice quite a bit! One of the things that was so difficult for me when I first became a mom was that my parents moved 1,000 miles away two weeks after my son was born. Agonizing. And the phone bills? Oy vey!

Congratulations on the upcoming grandmotherhood!

That's so wonderful! I wish that my first in-the-gut feeling of motherhood was something beautiful like that instead of the day-long feeling of completely overwhelming dread that it was!

Thanks so much for the input! I have the feeling that its going to be pretty bare-bones for the first several postings. I don't know the first thing about graphics, unfortunately. I haven't even figured out how to post pix of my handsome lads! (I know, boo hoo.)

What about a title, everyone? Suggestions?
