After I mentioned how much I would enjoy a weekly thread for moms, I heard back from many of you expressing interest in the idea. Well, let's give it a go! Here is the initial problem:
If such a thread were left entirely to my care, it would be posted three or four times a year, not weekly. I am woefully undisciplined when it comes to this kind of management.
Possible solution #1: We have a round-table style of posting with different mothers volunteering to post the upcoming week's thread.
Possible solution #2: Supermom steps up to the plate and offers to take on the weekly responsibility, knocking one out of the park and the fans go crazy!
Input, ladies?
Speaking of input...
Apart from standard posting guidelines, I cannot think of any one topic which I consider hands-off, but I do not wish to speak (type?!) for everyone. Therefore, I ask you: Are there any topics which any of you feel should not be addressed on the thread?
And conversely...
Are there any topics which you are very much interested in seeing addressed on the thread?
I have capriciously (if that means what I think it means) decided that the thread should runon Fridays. Are there any objections?
I do not know how to create or call up a ping list. I'll be frank: I'm no neurosurgeon. Could one of you intelligent ladies possibly create a ping list for the thread, or point me to the directions on how to do so?
I will leave off here because I would like as much input as possible from other moms. Please ping any moms on the forum that you think might be interested.
One last favor: If you don't mind, please complete the following sentence:
The first time I really felt like a mom was...
ping!
bump
Will this thread be as entertaining as the whiny, divorced dads threads?
ping!
I can tell you about the time I first felt like a Muhtha.
Will there be Single Moms on here? ;0)
Chad "Cruisin' fer chickies" Fairbanks
What about Dads who want to be trapped in a mom's body?
er, I guess I could have put that better.
ping!
Voila!
Well, as soon as you get it going, the "posting police " will move it to CHAT...
THIS I gotta hear!
I love this idea!
Some of the people I work with can't stand the fact that I have to take time off to tend to my son's needs. I took yesterday off to take my son to the doctor and someone else here complained how she couldn't take off because she doesn't have any children... it's not fair... waaawaawaa. This is also the person who curses like a sailor and has to buy 2 adjoining seats on an airplane. I'm sick of it.
I first felt like a mother the first felt my son move in my tummy. I described it to my husband like this... it feels as if you were blowing bubbles and they were popping on my stomach.
I'm new to this so I can't be much help... working Mom and all and still trying to become forum savvy... but I'm all for it.
How about one person would volunteer to "activate" the thread each Friday (can't be me, because I don't know how!), and then a new person each week could introduce a topic by posting an article, asking a question, relating an anecdote, or whatever she wanted? We could sign up to be the "starter" maybe a month at a time. Or if we had 4 or 5 who wanted to, we could have Grellis on the 1st Friday, Tax-chick on the 2nd Friday, etc.
There are many topics that have the potential to be very contentious, but on the other hand may be very informative. Maybe we can agree that something is "out of order" after the fact, so that we can try to be edifying to as many as possible.
I don't think I really felt like a mother until I left my job, when my oldest was 4 and my second child 1. Before that, I mainly felt like an employee!
Ummm... I'm guessing that's a no. Nowhere near as entertaining.
EXACTLY why I ignored it!
Who is a FReeper that might be able to help us out? With the initial posting, I mean. If it just becomes a matter of activating an ongoing thread, I can do that. I think I might know someone...
I can tell you the first time I felt my kids mom.
Could you possibly lend us a hand getting a weekly thread off the ground? We seem to have a good deal of interest in this idea but we're not sure how to set it up. Its just a Fridays only thread. How did you set up Amy's place? Any help would be great!
