Excellent post - you are 100% correct. In response to the future mythology of Islam, I like this version better:
One day, a father and his young son are at Ground Zero looking at the monument, and the son reads the plaque to his dad. It tells of the Arabs flying the planes into the buildings, and of the people that died that day. Then in puzzlement, the boy looks up at his dad and asks "Daddy, what were Arabs?"
A better question would be "What was islam"?
