I'm beginning to get a sense of what the tinfoil left is thinking. Nick was doing resistence work, probably trying to form a secret relationship with AQ in Iraq. Nick's dad is convinced that the U.S. Somehow tricked AQ into thinking he was working for us.
Hence all the confusing mumbo jumbo about Nick being AQ's best friend.
In reality, AQ probably thought he was untrustworthy and therefore expendable.
Dad's problem is that this scenerio does not win any sympathy, even if the U.S. did set the kid up.
