This is one of the root issues as to why I'm not Catholic. Another might be that you have a profound misunderstanding about "infallibility".
Only when he is addressing matters of faith and morals specifically and officially as the head of the church, he is no more infallible than you or me.
Political commentary is not covered, and is always counterproductive.

He may be good at his day job, but when he reveals the lunacy of his beliefs regarding geopolitical matters he fans a lot of anger instead of reconciling people.
It's like having a senior executive who's a neo-Nazi or a cross-dresser or something. Your respect for his judgment in his core competency goes waaaaay down.

Many people are misguided thinking that every statement of the Pope on matters of faith or morals is considered infallible by Catholics. It is not by informed Catholics.
