In the name of decency, I'm forcing myself to give dad Berg the benefit of the doubt.
I have read his son's attitude and accomplishments. His son was a civilian hero by anyone's standards, liberal or conservative. I will not let his father's statements diminish this.
Dad Berg was a member of ANSWER. He has probably not gone a day over the past four years without blindly saying out loud "I hate Bush". Its simply a reflex action, a habit, an easy crutch. Thus when this ultimate devestation occurred, he fell back on the crutch at a time when he needed a crutch. He just simply didn't know what else to do, so he did what he's been doing all along - speaking out against Bush.
Grief such as this is acceptable, even expected, from a woman.
If the statements of this guy are attributable to a public display of grief, he doesn't deserve the stones with which he was born.
Exactly what I was thinking! Yes, I disagree with this guy, but after what he's been through -- not only did he lose a child and in such a hideously violent manner, but the murder is being broadcast throughout the world -- I'm not going to judge him.
