Students Protest Drop in Minority Enrollment
Thursday, May 13, 2004

Renita Cheney, president of the Black Recruitment and Retention Center and CalSERVE presidential candidate, led cheers at the student protest against the decline in minority student enrollment in the UC system. Donned in red shirts, more than 60 people, self-dubbed United Students for Diversity, held a sit-in under Sather Gate on Tuesday afternoon to tell university officials they are serious about the unacceptable admission numbers.
UC data show that underrepresented freshman admits dropped by 12.5 percent and the number of black students plunged by 30 percent this year.

When they say 'minority' they don't mean Chinese, Vietnamese, Asian Indian, Jewish, Presbyterian, Baptist, or Irish do they?

They dropped competitive entrance criteria for Back and Hispanics years ago. Berkeley wasonce one of the Best schols in the world, bar none. Now it has almost turned into just another state university. It is a sad turn of affairs.

Are the protesters mentioning that, while the numbers of blacks at UC Berkley have decreased, they total number of blacks enrolled and graduating from the UC system of schools is increasing? Probably not.
Walter Williams has written some very good articles on this subject that explain what the liberals fail to mention in their caterwauling.

It's a socialist, Marxist indoctrinatin camp. Full of white hating racists at that. The minority failure and dropout rate are about 70%. Thats why they are cutting back on the racist admission policy. It is such a waste of space and money to continue giving admission to people who will not be there to finish with a degree.

No, likely not. And another poster asked whether the school was supposed to Shanghai people. Good question.
If "minority" students are not applying to the school, what's the school supposed to do about it?

I'm really hoping that we manage to get the affirmative action issue on the ballot here in Michigan. BAMN is trying to block it for obvious reasons. The tie in to the memogate scandal is important here as well.

How about if they pay for it; instead of the taxpayer.

It's not that they're not applying. It's that minorities are, in inreasing proportions, attending other schools in the UC system that are not quite so rigorous. What makes the difference is that they are completing their educations and graduating in greater numbers because they are at schools that are better matched to their abilities. So while there are less minorities at Berkley, more blacks are actually completing their educations due to being at schools that are better matched for them.

Perhaps all the other advantages that Berzerkely heaps on "diverse" students isn't enough to compete with the call of the Street for these valuab-ler than others group of peoples.
When I went to college, I never had a race-based "Recruitment and Retention Center" dedicated to keeping me in school, if I flunked out, I got drafted. And that's just what I did.
If preferential admission policies, an entire academic discipline dedicated to serving the needs of "minorities", and free ride scholarships aren't enough, just what in hell do they want?
I expect this group of idiots to start demanding paychecks for minority students who deign to grace Berkeley's halls of diverstity.
Berkeley - it used to be "the best and the brightest"; well, now at least it's among the "most colorful".
