Heard on Fox this AM that some Senator asked, "How did we get such people into the Army?" That's a far, far cry from Reagan's admiring question, "Where did we get such men?" The answer in this case is that somehow in this particular unit, we have a bunch of pigs wearing uniforms. I want to know who was in charge of this group of rejects.

In truth, I had been wondering if some of the hero worship of the military had been a bit over done. I mean, God knows I appreciate them, but it's not like they can do no wrong and to present it like that sets up an expectation that no group of people the size we have in Iraq can live up to. Statistically there are always a certain number of freaks, perverts, criminals, malcontents, and plain old bad apples.

"How did we get such people into the Army?" They enlisted volutarily under significantly reduced standards. Significantly less than 10% of young American amles who attend top tier schools will ever serve in uniform. Under a military draft it was over fifty percent.
