Only two kinds of people insist that Islam is a peaceful religion:
1) Those who have never read Qur'an and Hadith. And even most Muslims fall in this category. They are the "cafeteria" Muslims. But just because they haven't read the juicy bits against Christians and Jews or choose to ignore them does not mean that murder is not part of Islam. Islam is what the books say it is.
2) Liars.

When you hear "jihad" defined as "struggle", remember, "Mein Kampf" translates "My Struggle".

I have no misconceptions of what jihad is. Even now and then you will find a muslim site like "Ask The Imam" come clean and say that "true jihad" is a holy war.

I think one place this came up was in a discussion if sex slaves were still permissible. The Imam said yes, it was defined by the law of Islam and there have been no changes to that law. The Imam then went on to say that "slavery is out of vogue" and that slaves must be obtained under special conditions (seized in jihad) and arbitrated out by a military leader.

There was even an explanation of how slavery was more compasionate than letting these women be free to fend for themselves (where they might turn to prostitution anyway). The Imam also added that the sexual loving that a slave master showed his slaves showed he loved them.

They defend the indefensible.
