No Evidence Brass OK'd Prison Abuse, Probe Finds
Los Angeles Times | May 12, 2004 | Richard A Serrano

Investigator: No Evidence Abuse Was Authorized By Richard A. Serrano, Times Staff Writer

A key Army investigator in the Abu Ghraib prison abuse scandal has testified that he found "absolutely no evidence" that the military chain of command authorized any of the mistreatment of detainees, but rather that it was the work of a small band of guards "just having fun at the expense of the prisoners," according to court-martial documents obtained today by the Los Angeles Times.

The Generals in charge were out having iced tea when the photos were taken.

Hey, it worked for AlGore...

The issue is the contractors, who have IDF and Shin Bet ties, apparently, and the CIA. If they acted like they had Bush's full backing, the guards would believe they weren't doing anything against orders and indeed were following their orders. If the Pentagon knew of this and looked the other way because they liked the results, then the Pentagon is complicit. Bush was very unhappy with Rumsfeld's management of this, but knows that it would be political suicide to boot Rumsfeld because it would be an admission that his management of the war was flawed-- the perfect opening for Kerry.

Good post....I ran into a dim today who insisted that Rummy should be fired. I explained to him that to remove Rummy would be akin to performing brain surgery to fix an ingrown toenail.

The one question that I want to get answered by the guards is, "What were you told to do exactly and by whom and under what authority did they say?" Such a simple question that would clear a lot of things up.

I suspect that this might be where the CIA got a little too loose with their interrogations and let some folks in on them they should not have.

That's exactly what I suspected. There are pics of the soldiers having sex with each other. That has nothing to do with "softening up the prisoners." This was just an incredibly stupid game by a group of people that got out of hand. They deserve whatever punishment is coming their way.

Big deal! After viewing pics of Berg's horrible murder, want to see 10 of those Abu Ghraib prisoners lined up and beheaded, chainsawed or immolated. Let the word spread to those greasy islamics that for every 1 coalition member that dies 10 of Abu Graib will die.

Hmm, would have to go back and re-read some stuff, but I think most of the Abu Gharaib prisoners were so low-level or not involved in terorrism that the CIA had no interest in them.

Most of the Abu Gharaib prisoners are petty criminals. There have been many prisoners held there and then released without charges.

It's not a solid mass of crazed terrorists, as much as people would like to believe it is.
