As a New Yorker, I can tell you it is true.
You are incorrect. Far from deriving people way, the anti-smoking bans have actually increased restaurant attendance and revenues have gone up.
For anyone who has ever had a special dinner at an expensive restaurant ruined by people at the next table blowing smoke in your face, you can understand.
Most NYers like the ban just fine, thgank you very much.
