It's a Fight for Survival -- Pull Out All Stops
By Bruce Herschensohn, Bruce Herschensohn teaches foreign policy at the Pepperdine University School of Public Policy and is the author of "Passport" (Simon & Schuster, 2003 ).
It may seem to be a radical idea, but why not use every means possible without politically correct detours to win the war against terrorism?
Our victory in World War II was not achieved by trying to win the hearts and minds of Germans and Japanese. We did not dominate the newsreels with pictures of those things a few American troops did to captured enemies. We did not call for an end to domestic profiling. We did not demonstrate against our military involvement. There was not the outrageous political complaint that "I support the troops but oppose the war."

Sir:
Bruce Herschensohn's piece was brilliant and dead-on target. Amazing it got past your Politburo censors. Could someone please tattoo it on Teddy Kennedy's forehead?

Who is Bruce Herschensohn, and has he taken appropriate security measures against the coming death threats from Democrats?

Perfect. Just perfect. Go after them. No prisoners. No holding back. Night and day. Bring up the paving machines; there will be a parking lot. And I guarantee that the 7 of them who survive will get right in line. Never to forget Dresden and Berlin.

Maybe we will pull out all of the stops on November 3, when Bush no longer has to kow-tow to the whining Democrats or their syncophants in the press and media.

"Who is Bruce Herschensohn[?]"
Is he not Ariana Huffington's ex-husband, who lost the race for Senator a few years back?

Wow. The LA Times printed that? They might have to do an investigation to find out which editor was sober at the time!

"But if we want to win the war against terrorism we must accept a lengthy war with many casualties, because the consequences of defeat will mean our future generations will be left to lifetimes of fear. If we lose this war, we will be on the road back to the Middle Ages."
And no matter who he is, he sure is right about this!

"Who is Bruce Herschensohn?" A distant relative of John Galt.
Actually, a former L.A. TV personality with a strong conservative streak. He ran for public office (I believe for Senate against one of our current harridans) and lost. As I recall they smeared him because he once visited a strip club or something like that. Much worse than Bill Clinton, you see.
(Nobel Prize winning physicist Richard Feynmann frequented a strip club in Pasadena; he had his own 'reserved' booth. When the city council tried to shut it down, he testified in its defense, saying it was 'necessary to his work'. It was allowed to remain in business.)
Anyway he is now an academic and has always been a thinker, as reading the article will reveal.

"Is he not Ariana Huffington's ex-husband, who lost the race for Senator a few years back?" No, he is not her ex-husband. That guy was named (surprise!) Huffington and had lots of money, which he wasted on a feckless campaign.

And I guarantee
that we'll have at least seven
bullets still ready . . .
(The point is, we know
current strategy falls short.
All out war may not
be the perfect thing,
but it's bound to be better
than this "simmering" . . .)
(And have you ever
compared "normal" boxing and
wrestling to more real
kumite fighting
with no-holds-barred? Real fighting
is almost always
really effing fast.
I think that's what war should be --
Fast, decisive, done . . .)
To: vandykelastone
I was watching O'Reilly last night and had to shut off the TV when Lindsay Graham, a Republican, said we didn't win the war against Germany and Japan by stooping to their level. We cannot stoop to the level of our enemies. I thought, WTF? We weren't concerned about civilian casualties in WWII. Criminy...we leveled Dresden and Berlin and we certainly destroyed Nagasaki and Hiroshima. I'm afraid that all our politicians have lost their sense of perspective here and are only concerned about what the NYT is going to say and what gets shown on TV and not concerned about winning the frickin' war. I had to turn off the TV.
