There are times when no good purpose is served by publicizing a terrible image. The repeated broadcast of race car driver Dale Earnhardt's fatal crash last year was gratuitous. Nothing was gained by replaying, over and over, the beating of Rodney King.

But the beheading of Daniel Pearl is different. It conveys with a force no words can match the undiluted malignancy, the sheer evil, of the enemy we are fighting. Yes, it is a horror. Yes, it is barbaric. But we are at war with barbarians, and what they did to Pearl, they would gladly do to any one of us. This is no time to be covering our eyes.

Dislaimer: This is hearsay, but, for what it's worth...one source says Dan Rather wanted to show an unedited version of the Daniel Pearl beheading.

THE DANIEL PEARL VIDEO - WHY YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN IT!

After having viewed the [Daniel Pearl] video last night - I was not disgusted, rather very angry.

I now understand the anger and frustration that Dan Rather of CBS must have felt when he was forced to edit this tape.

It is anger over censorship.

It is anger over highly effective U.S. government public affairs spin which has put the label of "gruesome" on this tape when the correct label should be: "anti-Semitic of the highest editorial value".

I just talked to Alison too. Heard the same line about the FCC...blah, blah, blah. Couldn't they just blur out the minute and a half where his head is being sawed off? Isn't that what they usually do to get away with something that goes against the FCC rules?? I'm sure it would be good for their ratings, too. Not that they are concerned with stuff like that.

Called in and spoke with Kimesha or Tamesha (not sure.) She said it was their top story yesterday and that it has been covered. She was polite. She also said that they showed as much of the video as was possible within FCC regs. Keep Calling! CBS should have to answer for the discrepancy in their news coverage.

I ran accross this forum in a search for the video, b/c I know it will never make on the air. I submitted feedback to CBS/NBC/ABC and the like and have decided to share my coments with you.

There is something that I do not get and thought that, perhaps, you could clue me in. The photos of Iraqi POW's being humiliated by our troops is on the waves 24/7, even though they were punished, yet you will not even consider airing only the audio of what those savages did to an innocent man that had apsolutely no ties to the military; he was a civilian! The American People need to know the kind of people we are fighting agaisn't; THEY HAVE A RIGHT TO KNOW! The attention that you have given to the murder of Nick Berg PALES in comparison to the "coverage" of the humiliation of Iraqi POW's! Why?? Would this have been the case if American soldiers beheaded an Iraqi citizen? No. If this had been the case, the murder would have gotten 10 times the attention currently given to the Iraqi POW humiliation. The American People need the WHOLE truth, and not your Liberal Biased Garbage.
