Now CNN is saying that Nick Berg's family will [within the next half hour] explain why they think that previous US actions are responsible for his murder.
Don't they realize that they're encouraging more of the same with such statements? Maybe CNN is framing the questions in a certain way to get the answer they want or taking advantage of the family's grief during an especially vulnerable moment and causing them to p*ss on their loved one's still-warm corpse.
Nice.

So , just so I get this straight...
Some (very few) American servicemen in an Iraqi prison humilate and embarass some convicts, therefore, DON RUMSFELD MUST RESIGN.
CBS Executives show photos they know will enrage Arab public opinion, and their photos lead to the beheading of an American captive, therefore CBS MUST DO ANOTHER STORY.
Is it just me, or are conservatives held to a totally different statnard of accountability.
They say Rumsfeld should resign because some men under him( far under him), without his knowledge, did something stupid.
And he should take the fall.
But CBS exec's and anchors do something they know is potentially dangerous, and will most likely lead to an escalation of hostilities. They do it anyway, and the immediate result is that an American is beheaded.
Will any of them resign?
Will the media demand someone take the fall?
&^#$ no, they are going to do ANOTHER story along the same lines, already knowing full well the consequences of their previous actions.
Simply Speechless here.

CBS is being inundated with phone calls from the American public, and not just because of this thread. As I have posted on several comments throughout this thread, our local talk radio host on WMAL AM-630 in DC, Chris Core, is also encouraging his listeners to contact CBS. And I am sure that many other talk radio folks are doing similarly.
People on this thread have called and emailed, and they have called and emailed friends and family members encouraging them to call CBS at

I guess it could be a "Kris/Chris" conspiracy...
SHEESH! Don't call them then.

NO, I could care less about the personal politics of free republic. I was pissed off at CBS and had already emailed them and have contacted dish tv to remove CBS from my programming when I saw this thread. What they did was on the borderline of treason and led to the brutal murder of this young man. We are at war with people here as well as the terrorists.

I just called and asked them if they were going to air the video and I got a lot of crap about how they couldn't because of FCC regulations... I told her that they should at least play the audio... again, FCC crap... then I asked her why they had no problem with running pics of the Iraqis 24/7... finally, I told her that CBS had blood on their hands...

On a different note I just tried to e-mail Senator Sub-Driver (aka Ted Kennedy) to tell him that a real atrocity took place today as opposed to Abu Ghraib. His e-mail is down! Coward!

On February 17, 2000, Andrew Heyward came to Brown University for a conversation about the television industry. The president of CBS News since 1996, Heyward discussed changes in the media in recent years, the challenge of the Internet, the merger of CBS and Viacom.
"A lot of things we do at CBS News piss off sponsors and they call the head of the whole company."
"When news started out, it was a virginity restorer. It was designed to be the respectable thing that the networks did because they were also inflicting Green Acres and Petticoat Junction on the American public."

You get a choice of leaving a message or waiting for a real person to talk to.
I did both earlier. I was hung up on by the guy that took the call though.

rwfromkansas, I think that showing those photos served no purpose other than to embarass our country and our president. If the prison abuse was continuing or if it was being covered up than showing them might have been needed. But why show them when the problem was being corrected?

I thought we had a free press in this country, and I don't believe the CBS mouthpiece. I'm writing to both the FCC and my congresshumans to find out if this is true. I hope you'll do the same.

I hate the rats.
The rats have joined sides with our enemies just so that they will have a chance to steal back power.
We must never again allow the rats to win.

It's 8:35 EST.
I got a woman who said I could call in the morning but that they aired as much of the video as they could with an FCC regulation.
