NOW Americans should know the difference between atrocity and mistreatment.
My disturbed conscience | 5/11/04 | ChristianKungFu

In other threads, I've made the comment that McCain should have his legs broken again so he would better remember what torture is. And that the politicians and mindless american myrmidons should be ashamed for referring to prisoner mistreatment as atrocities or torture while they ignore real examples across the world.

They should be equally ashamed of the disproportional and misleading coverage which speculates the worst and accuses the soldiers and military of actions which are not shown in the pohotos. The extensive coverage is a hysteria unmatched by minor coverage of real atrocities committed against americans and arabs by these same people who've suddenly gained the compassion of the media.

Now contrast that with today's beheading. I've seen the same news outlets giving ALL benefit of the doubt saying an american was "SEEMINGLY" beheaded! Its right there on friggin video, yet they leave some doubt......but still photos of the Iraqi prisoners posing is somehow proof of dog attacks, sodomy, beatings.....THEY are already guilty in the minds of some people.

Dare I remind everyone of what I alluded to earlier....that there is a gross exaggeration of events here. These politicians and some mindless americans have referred to the humiliation of prisoners as torture and atrocity.......I can't wait to see what adjectives they reserve for this.

Will the media coverage of such an apparent and unquestioned atrocity be given anywhere NEAR the same coverage of the prisoner mistreatment? And BTW....will the media show the tape of the beheading? Did they show the Richard Pearle beheading? Did they show pictures of the executed reporters? Did they show pictures of the 4 civilians burned, dragged and hung in Falujah? Did they ever show pictures of the bodies in 9/11? Did they show pictures of the iraqi civilians killed by terrorist bombings in Iraq? Did they show pics of the mother and 4 children gunned down in their car and left in the ditch? Have they shown the bodies of the 800 american soldiers killed?

Will you "humanitarians" and politicians make apologies or rationalizations for this civilian beheading? Or will you unapologetically decry it with the same fervor as the Iraqi prison incidents?

We'll see.....but I think I already know. Some of the people in this country are petty political playpals who refuse to acknowledge the realities despite whatever political leanings they may have.

The fact that the "naked prisoner" photos are being shown by the media, and the 9-11, Daniel Pearl's beheading, and this latest beheading, are not being shown by the media demostrates which acts are atrocities and which are not.

The media might want to be careful about politicizing this, as I would imagine the American people will see right thru it and be pissed off like nothing else. We need to see the images of the poor souls jumping off the WTC. We need to see their bodies after landing. Then we might have perspective.

If I, as an average, patriotic American am an indicator of the reaction, these bastards have made a big mistake. My reaction: give me a gun and I will go kill them.

What happened at Abu Ghraib is more akin to college fraternity hazing than torture. Letsee...on one hand you have bodies burned and mutilated, on the other hand the "victim" is made to wear women's underwear. Hmmm. Would I rather be decapitated or stripped naked and photographed (with my face covered)? Oh, one other difference: the choir boys in Abu Ghraib weren't civilians trying to rebuild Iraq's infrastructure, they were merely sadists, loyal to Saddam (or Osama) who enjoy shooting at American soldiers and detonating car bombs.

I've been saying it for awhile too. "Torture" and "atrocities" should be reserved for things like putting people through plastic shredders feet first (so they could be conscious as long as possible), gassing men, women and children (in Germany or in Iraq), and using live human subjects for "research."

What we've seen so far is abuse, but not torture, and certainly not, as many are screeching, "astrocities."

Bush needs to take it to the left wing. A point is reached where civility permits truly awful people to bring about truly awful results. I keep posting here that Joseph Biden, who the republicans treat with respect, said plain as day on Chris Mathews that the only good to come of the Iraq war will be a demoralized and defeated America that will not dare threaten Iran and Syria! You can't let people get away with that type of Anti Americanism without confronting it.

Judging from callers to talk radio and the odd comments from the folks at FOX news its starting.

The savage nation should be a real treat tonight.

It will be a miracle if the beheading story ever eclipses the stacking story. One story reveals dumb choices the other reveals why we are fighting the war on terrorism. We, conservatives, know the difference. The rats either don't' or don't care. Either way you have to question their patriotism.

*Some of the people in this country are petty political playpals who refuse to acknowledge the realities despite whatever political leanings they may have*

Not just the country at-large, but even some so-called "conservatives" seem to bite on the liberal line about these events, hook, line, & sinker.

I agree with you entirely, BTW.

They better "get it."

This is no time to display a fine sense of humanitarianism and apply it to these ruthless murderers. We have to do what has to be done to make them talk. Period.

Those who condemn the acts of the interrogators should save their fine sense of moral outrage for after the war. It's totally misplaced where the goal is to extract information from the enemy and to save American lives.

I have posted in the last few days that, while it's a stretch to call it torture, I think some of the stuff caught on camera in that prison went over the line as to how prisoners of war in captivity should be treated and was not in keeping with our long-standing traditions along those lines, and those who took part should be held accountable and punished..

I'm posting right now that if we can pin down where the cretins who did this are in Iraq, we need to make that particular spot of the country the largest crater this side of the moon, and turn every living organism within that particular spot of the country into ionized molecules.

I don't think the two positions are contradictory or mutually exclusive.

The beheadding of Mr. Berg may be viewed at the following link. A long speech in Arabic, they then behead him while screaming "God is great", and finally hold up his severed head for display. So disgusting. To equate this in any way to God's will is an abomination.
