Just what I've been able to piece together, but I'm not certain I have it right: Berg went to Iraq looking for work. He was picked up by Iraqi police and American military, in a sweep, questioned, and turned loose. He was warned it was dangerous and advised to go home. I think one report said he was going to do that, but before he could, he was captured by these people.
