May 11, 2004 -- ALBANY - A 19-year- old legislative intern has accused Harlem Democratic Assemblyman Adam Clayton Powell IV of rape, high-level police sources said yesterday. Powell, 43, the son of legendary Harlem Rep. Adam Clayton Powell Jr., was also accused in a complaint made late last week of plying the female intern with alcohol. The legal drinking age is 21.

He'll get off

How can he be Powell IV if he is the son of Powell Jr.? Technically, he should be Powell III. Otherwise, maybe the Congressman has been hanging around with one of his daytime constituents, W.J. Clinton, and has picked up one of his disgusting habits.

He'll get off Uh, he already DID get off. That's why he's being charged with rape.
Friends don't let friends date Democrats!
To: KAUAIBOUND
He's Powell's grandson.

Antiblazer:Since May 9, 2004 I wonder when it will learn proper usage of "whom" vs. "who"--another proud graduate of liberal public schools.

Here's the defense: She wanted it, she's a whore. The defense rests. He'll be acquitted.

I agree with you ACPIII doesn't seem the type. I know you can't come to a conclusion without the facts, but he has always seemed to be one of the honorable democrats in the State Party Machine...

Actually, I know a family where the father was Clarence Jr, the first son was Clarence III, the second son Clarence IV, the third son Clarence V, the fourth son Clarence VI, and the daughter Clarissa!
Did I miss it, or was the party affiliation of the alleged perp omitted from the article?? (As if a former New Yorker - me - wouldn't know the affiliation of a Harlem state lawmaker:-)

"Nuts and Sluts" I agree will be the defense. What struck me when I read this.. There was another article posted this morning about the young Muslim girl that was burned. The article included a long discussion about the various crimes Muslim men commit against woman - rape included - and they by in large get away with it.
This is not a profound comparison, but it does not stand in complete contrast either.

My bad - He was labeled "Democratic".
Just as an aside... Does the use of "Democratic" bug anyone else besides me? Does this mean GOP lawmakers are "Republicanic"?
