Here's why: The military people involved probably changed their minds about the validity of the war after being influenced by the anti war, anti-American media. A certain number of those involved probably thought the military was just a good way to straighten out their lives and pay for college. Think about it. You've got some people there in uniform serving for over a year in a war in which they expected to be welcomed as liberators super PO'ed that they're not going home. Instead, they land in a country where no one can be trusted not to shoot them or blow them up. They read stuff on the INTERNET and in the Liberal papers that sway them over to the other side. After a while, they start to fantasize about how to discredit the military and especially the administration that sent them there. A few individuals in our normally extremely honorable armed forces decide upon revenge. The idea occurs to some that pictures of humiliated, naked POW's would shame our country.
Part of the enemy is within and always has been and always will be.
The President should explain that there are always "destructive opportunists" to be found in all organizations, cultures and religions, or some such term, just as he explains that all Muslims are not terrorists. He is setting the example for the world by purging the criminal element among us, rather than condoning them.
The fact that he's having the courts martial in the convention center is a brilliant strategy.
Even with that, there have been fake photos published (at least in the arab press) that were sourced from a porn web site.
Additionally fake photos may have run in the Daily Mirror.
There ARE those who are seeking to exploit this scandal to diminish the war effort (restore the Saddamites?). The media is HARDLY being impartial in this war (then again they believed Baghdad Bob the first few days he told "the truth" about American troops being trapped in the swamps).
