and some have little to do with Iraqi detainees but show sex between U.S. soldiers...What morons -- but if they have little to do with the detainees then why is this some kind of issue? What's there to investigate as far as abuse?

Well, just FWIW, the latest Gallup poll found that 81% were either "a great deal" (54%) or "a fair amount" (25%) troubled by the abuse.

It's a violation of the Geneva Conventions to hold a prisoner up to ridicule or even to photograph one in such a manner as to reveal his/her identity. CNN and a few others have been blurring the prisoners' faces and that is OK. The New Yorker and Seymour Hersh have not. Anyone can commit a war crime, not just a member of the military or command structure -- even civilians. Arguably, by releasing photos that show the prisoners' faces without blurring them (such as the
photo showing the prisoner surrounded by the dogs) the New Yorker is itself committing a war crime.

Every society that condemns or condemned homosexuality practices a lot more of it than they claim. That's pretty well-established...

Probably not unlike what cameras would have caught in the Oval Office in 1993-2000? But that was his business right?

Is that why Saudi Arabia beheads homosexuals; Iran has them tossed off cliffs; and Egypt sentences them to 10-20 years in prison? That being true, I'm just so happy know that they haven't moved beyond pedaphilia.

Worse, it's now apparent that Lawson contacted 17 Congressional Democrats months ago...who did nothing. They now stand to be hoisted by their own petard. At last Friday's series of Senate and House hearings, every single Congressman was acting shocked and surprised and a bit outraged by it all. Then I read the NYT story on Saturday about the time of events of this SSGT getting ahold of Hackworth who in turn gets the SSGT in touch with 60 Minutes II because 17 Congressman ignored the letter from the SSGT. I can sort of relate and sympathize with the SSGT. Many times I've corresponded with my Congressmen and never got an answer back. They can't even acknowledge receipt of mail, they don't watch CNN, and they pretend to act surprised.
What surprised me is all the people acting surprised. Heck I knew about this from reading the Billings Gazette, and watching CentCom briefings when I can. Just so happend I caught the CentCom briefing where the "big announcement" was made, on January 16th, which was reported on the Billings Gazette website later in the day.

Personally, I wouldn't release the photos to the media...just give any congressman a private viewing....if they insist!"Better still, limit the viewing to only those congressmen who took the time and to trouble to go visit and read the evidence against Clinton during his impeachment. As I recall, the Dims refused to go near the evidence. That would boil it down to about 4-5 people who could view the photos.

The "shocked" senators all need to resign.
They're all liars.
Damn them.
I am furious.

Well, pedophilia and adult homosexuality ('egalitarian androphilia' in scholar speak) are two quite different and historically distinct behavioral phenomena, for what it's worth.. But, this isn't the thread for that discussion..

Exactly. I don't care if they're Republican or Democrat. If they can't keep up to speed on the events around them, and answer some mail, they're not fit for the job.

I wish I knew who the 17 Congressman this SSGT tried to correspond with. If they're all either Democrats or Republicans, I don't care; If they're a mixture of the two, makes no difference. I want to know who's responsible for ignoring the concerns of a serviceman! They heap praise on servicemen and servicewomen from time to time, and then this happens!

What morons -- but if they have little to do with the detainees then why is this some kind of issue? What's there to investigate as far as abuse? What I think it means is this shows these pictures were taken at the personal whims of these sickos....not, as the perps claim, because military intelligence or the CIA told them to do these things.
What I think the "little to do with detainees" means, is on the disk are normal touristy and comraderie pictures that one would take as a person stationed in Iraq, and then mixed in among these are these prisoner abuse pictures.
In fact, I seem to recall regarding Darby, the one who turned the first set of pictures in and blew the whistle on this group, I seem to recall that CD described as just like that...normal pictures and then WHAM bizarro prisoner abuse photos mixed in.
