After a brief exchange of fire with Iraq insurgents on Saturday, Danish forces have received tips from local informants on the individuals involved

Following a two hour-long exchange of fire with Iraqi insurgents over the weekend, Danish troops stationed in southern Iraq have received several crucial leads from Iraqi locals in their hunt for armed, masked militants involved in the confrontation.

According to the Army Operational Command (HOK), Danish troops received advance warning of an ambush planned west of the city of Al Qurna, and sent a large contingent to the area ahead of time. The Danish unit encountered some 8-12 attackers--fewer than expected--and fire was exchanged for about two hours before the attackers fled into the city.

It is not known how many of the insurgents were injured or killed in the exchange, but three Iraqis reportedly sought medical attention for bullet wounds. Danish forces have since received the names of some of the Iraqis involved, and are actively searching for these individuals, all of them with ties ti Muslim cleric Moqtada al-Sadr's Mehdi Militia.

"It is considered likely that the planned ambush was tied to the recent unrest that has plagued much of Iraq," read a press release from HOK.
