- Becky Armendariz Klein, the Republican nominee for Congressional District 25, announced her support for renaming the Three Rivers Post Office after Felix Longoria.

Longoria, a Three Rivers native killed during combat in the Philippines during World War II, was buried at Arlington National Cemetery after the intervention of former President Lyndon B. Johnson.

"It is important for America to express its appreciation for those who pay the ultimate price for all of us to have freedom," Armendariz Klein said. "After speaking to family members, it is apparent to me that Mr. Longoria is truly symbolic of all Americans who valued freedom more than their own lives at a time when the fate of our nation and the world were very much uncertain. For that we owe a debt of gratitude."

Armendariz Klein said she has a deep empathy and appreciation for the men and women in uniform. She is a Major in the Air Force Reserves and is a veteran of Operation Desert Storm in Iraq. "Military service is very important to my family," Armendariz Klein said. "My father, a Mexican immigrant, who later became a U.S. citizen, was awarded the Purple Heart after being wounded in WWII."
