Not in their back yard? (CA asks couple to get rid of installations on their slice of beach.)
THE ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER ^ | Monday, May 10, 2004 | BRIAN MARTINEZ

CORONA DEL MAR – George and Sharlee McNamee have enjoyed the cool ocean breeze, soothing waves and swaying palm trees from their sandy, oceanfront back yard for 27 years. A sign on their shed reads "Just another day in paradise."

But their bliss has become frustration.

The California Coastal Commission wants the McNamees to remove the barbecue, restroom, shower, canopy, cabinets and concrete picnic tables from the couple's back yard, which is immediately behind Corona del Mar State Beach. Their property line extends into the sand near Inspiration Point.

I haven't been able to access the entire article so I don't have all the facts, BUT. . . I see this sort of thing here in California often. Homeowner has property on the beach, river, or some other sort of vacant land. They think that since the land is "not being used" they can build a "barbecue, restroom, shower, canopy, cabinets and concrete picnic tables," etc ON SOMEBODY ELSE'S LAND(!), usually the State's or some other local government's land. If the McNamees have in fact built this stuff on the State's beach, they are stealing just the same as if they built it on their next door neighbor's property!

The improvements were built on their own property.

The Fish and Game Commission has hearings about northern CA coho in San Diego, or the Sierra Nevadas. They never meet in Siskiyou County (by the Oregon border.) Similar thing with the North Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board. Most of their meetings are in Santa Rosa or Eureka - many hours drive from here.

Why is the Coastal Commission meeting in Marin County on this, 350+ miles away?

because this is where the commissionars live on their illegal houseboats at Gate Five in Sausalito. Remember CCC is where Babs Boxer got her start after she moved here from New York...

"..only posted an excerpt..not clear on violation... Please provide more complete explanation"

A little help here would be appreciated.

So that I may avoid repeating the same mistake, please advise why this excerpt is not allowed.

Thanks in advance.

I had a valid question, and a humble request for help. The link you threw out does not speak to your warning.

Being ignored is both rude, and educational.

If you are going to ban me, do so.....but be a man about it. To do so from the shadows is chicken-shit.

Chill out. Your excerpt was probably too long.

Because 1) it was too long of an excerpt, by a significant margin. As in about 90% too long of one, and 2) combined with the original excerpt, it made for 100% of the article.

Thanks, LM

PS- please avoid throwing insults at the staff here. They work hard for no compensation.

Thanks for the advice. I honestly did not understand the infraction.

Was I wrong to ask?

Was it appropriate for the Mod to ignore me?

It was definitely inappropriate for you to use profanity and impunge the character of the mods, and infer that you were about to be banned.

"It was definitely inappropriate for you to..."

Agreed.

Was I wrong to ask?

Was it appropriate for the Mod to ignore me?

No.

The mods have a lot to do, they are volunteers. They can't always answer every question as to why something is removed, so if you don't get a response, don't take it personally.

"The mods have a lot to do..."

I don't mean to beat a dead horse, but; when we are warned about an infraction, and not told what it is, what should we do?

The mods told you what the infraction was. And an excerpt is not 90 percent of the article - instead, it's the opposite, more like 10 percent.
