I looked back on my posts for quite a while and can't find the post with the like to the actual law. Maybe some other Freepers could help me out here.
Anyway, as the correction went, it was 1987 that then President Regan signed into law a ban on private ownership of fully automatic firearms for civilians. Choosing only to ignore the Second Amendment and not the Constitutions ban on ex post facto laws, Firearms manufactured prior to the laws passage are still available (following to rules your mentioned) - although a bit pricey. For example a M-16 went from around $1,000.00 or so to upward of $12,000.00.

Not quibbling here, but if I am able to obtain a Class 3, find the weapon that I want to purchase (even at the inflated price), and but it. They are not banned.

Over regulated, yes. Anti 2nd, yes. Wrong headed, yes.

Banned, no.
