Your take is dead on. I am warming up to this scandal. It's still horrible and I wish it had never happened, and I want to see the perps prosecuted. But I'm not as afraid of blowback as I was a week ago.

It was curious when the released prisoner gave his exit interview, where he had been tortured by Saddam and humiliated by a female American GI, and he much preferred the torture.

Sounds like a pretty good deterrent to me. Threaten to kill, maim or torture an Islamo-Fascist and they don't care. Threaten to subject them to 5 minutes with an amateur dominatrix, and they all of a sudden think of better things to do than mess with the Americans.

The Arab world is filled with professional complainers, that make Jesse Jackson look like a piker. But we can co-exist so long as we don't have to take them seriously. On September 12, 2001 we had to take them seriously. As time passes, the vaunted Arab street is looking more and more irrelevant.
