I always thought that nature determines the potential and nurture determines the realization of that potential. In other words, you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear but you can make a sow's ear out of a silk purse.

Pinker seems to think its about 50/50.

And he sees that the 'nurture' half is much more influenced by peer group than by parenting.
