I wouldn't say all of them are nice.
That farmer, as I say, I believe was abusive. You get an ominous feeling whne he's about. ( Which fortunantly isn't often inside the house)
Still, he can't really do anything.

No, not nice, but "benign." As in, not deliberately trying to harm or terrorize you. As you said, the farmer--even though he was probably a jerk and a lout--can't do anything. So, much like a benign tumor (which, while not fatal, all things considered, you'd still rather not have one in you) I'm more willing to believe in ghosts/spirits like yours, that are harmless.
I just don't go for the chain-rattling, blood curdling screaming, old-fashioned ghost stories.
