Thanks - no rocket science here, either. I'm a modest student of history and I lean towards the tragic view of human nature. Civilization is a very, very thin veneer over a pack of savage tendencies that humanity never left behind when we emerged from the plains and forests to form the first agrarian societies.
Our ability - and our willingness - to rein in those dark impulses is our hope, our glory and our salvation. The good guys don't always win, but we never go away.
