Former CIA Official: U.S. May Fall Like USSR
News Max ^ | May. 5, 2004 | Phil Brennan

Posted on 05/05/2004 3:50:32 PM PDT by yonif

Herb Meyer is calling for a holy war to save western civilization. But the former Reagan CIA official has a problem: Most people don’t know what it is he wants to save.

"We’ve forgotten what Western civilization is," Meyer told NewsMax.com. "We no longer teach it in the schools. If you come to the schools where I live and ask a group of high school students ‘what is Western Civilization?’ They’ll tell you it’s slavery, the oppression of women and we don’t recycle.”

But Western Civilization is not made up of our faults; all civilizations have those. Meyer contends, “It’s the rule of law, the idea of individual and economic rights, scientific inquiry - this is important stuff and our failure to teach our children what Western Civilization is may be the worst mistake we’ve ever made."

Meyer was not one just to ride into the sunset after his government service with Ronald Reagan. During the 1980s he served as Special Assistant to the Director of Central Intelligence, William J. Casey. Meyer played a key role in helping Ronald Reagan and Bill Casey win the cold war. Meyer was also one of the first analysts to predict the breakup of the Soveit empire.

Now, this former CIA analyst says it’s the U.S. and the West that may just crackup.

In fact, he has just produced a new video, The Siege of Western Civilization," that makes his point, and explains to Americans what we need to save.

Meyer also had a distinguished career in journalism. He's a former associate editor of Fortune, author of several books and dozens of published essays about politics and economics.

Meyer has put together the case – sometimes in shocking detail - the continuing assault on the very underpinnings of the civilization which has produced the concepts of religious and individual freedom, economic liberty, and the rule of law which have guided mankind for centuries.

This foundation of civilization led to a flowering of art and literature, monumental scientific discoveries and a living standard unmatched in all history.

But now Meyer is worried Americans today are willing to lose it all because they have no idea of how it all came about.

He argues that there has been an assault against Western civilization.

This attack he sees as three pronged:

A new civil war fought against the existence of any moral code governing conduct

A war against the kind of population growth required to sustain a nation’s economy and the welfare of its elderly people

An attack by a brand of Islam which seeks nothing less than to subjugate the Western world. This video is available on dvd or cassette, and is one every high school student in America and their parents should see.

Meyer tackles all three threats and explains what has to be done if Western Civilization and its incredible benefits are not to be vanquished.

"People want to be talked to seriously about the issues that confront us," Meyer explained. "They want to be talked to about the war, about our culture and about our economy. What they need more than anything else, is a way to pull it together, to connect the dots so that they have a context for following the news and for understanding what’s happening out there, and that’s what we tried to do in the video: To give them that context, to connect the dots, for them."

Population Suicide

You don’t hear much about it, but the Western world and Japan are in the process of committing population suicide – and America is not far behind.

Current birthrates in England, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and in Japan are far below what its required for a society to reproduce itself and sustain a healthy economy.

Russia is a population basket case. To reproduce itself, the birthrate must be 2.1 children per family. In Europe it’s almost half that, and in the U.S. it’s now 2.0 and headed down. In a mere 20 years, the population of some European nations and Japan will have dropped by an astonishing 30 percent.

"We seem to have forgotten what every primitive society understands: you need children," Meyer told NewsMax.com.

"They are a blessing obviously, but from a practical point of view they are consumers which an economy needs and then they grow up and become taxpayers. If you don’t have a big enough tax base you simply cannot generate the wealth to take care of the older people.

"And that’s what’s happening in Western Civilization today. We simply don’t have enough working age people to support the retired people.

"It’s the worst in Europe and Japan and we are obviously on the same trajectory. We can see what’s happening in Europe and Japan, so we have some time to deal with it."

Meyer says a second civil war is being waged against the culture of Western Civilization by hordes of neo-barbarians.

No Rules

"Back in the 1960s we just decided to throw away the rule book. We said ‘You don’t need rules anymore; everybody do whatever you want. If it feels good, do it.' That was a terrible mistake and we’re paying a price for it now. We expanded rights but no one wants to take responsibilities. You have to match the two. If you’re going to have more rights, you have to have more responsibility, but we want the rights without the responsibility."

And there is a worldwide war of terrorism against Western Civilization being waged by the fanatical wing of Islam.

Radical Islam Wants Us Gone

While noting that there are millions of good and decent Muslims in the world Meyer warns that "There is within Islam a radical streak and when the radicals are in charge, Islam attacks Western Civilization.

"It did that in the 7th century, it did again in the 15th and 16th centuries, and it’s doing it now in the 21st century. What we call the War on Terror, is in fact radical Islam’s third attack on Western Civilization. Terrorism is the tactic they are using."

Meyer insists, "We have to go back and understand just what it is we are fighting for. And when you understand Western Civilization then you have a very clear sense of who the enemy is, what they are attacking and why it’s worth defending."

That I agree with you. Our fiscal irresponsibility, if not corrected soon, will destroy our children's future. But, we will be responsible for destroying ourselves, not some radical Islamic guys.

yes rome lasted that long, but not as a democracy. they had different structures throughout their reign. but in the end it died. i believe no true democracy has lasted as long as we have.

A "civil" war is not always defined by a state or region against another. It also means national citizens against each other.

Once one or two homicide bombings occurs in our malls, restaurants, buses, etc. (or another 9/11), you WILL see a "civil" war, however small, surgical, and clandestine it might be. Americans are a tolerant and forgiving people, until our family and lifestyle is threatened. Believe it.

All nations eventually fall.

Hey! You stole my line. I always say that....just kidding.

But more seriously, whenever I said that the US is teetering, my father (an old CIA hand) always used to say "People've been saying that since the 50's". Which is also true.

But I remember saying, "I'll bet the Romans used to say 'Aahhh...yeah...we've always been hearing that sky is falling crap for three hundred years now'. And one day Rome DID fall."

And then he said something very interesting, concerning the longevity of an empire. The proper way to measure the timespan of a reigning empire is not with time itself - but with events. For example, a thousand years ago, a good war took a couple of years for the armies to meet each other. Now they can meet in hours and conclude in days.

And my thoughts are, with our accelerated pace, we've already achieved the decadence and decay that took the Romans the better half of a millenium to achieve.

"If we wiped Mecca and Medina and all capital cities of the Islamic world off the map would that win the war?"

Nope. The WMD of civilization warfare [Worldwide Migrating Demographics] is Children. Time, Democracy and Economics are their vehicle. "If you hire them, they will come". The West cooperates with the suicide pill and abortion as the second line of defense against children.

Heck, if France and England had gotten off of their kiesters and bailed out Constantinople in the 15th century (or not sacked the city on the way through earlier :/ ), the Roman Empire might still be around today!

Actually, there is ONE incident, in the recent past, that can be deemed the cause of much of the current Mideast problems..When Ike forced GB and France NOT to invade Egypt after Nasser nationalized the Suez Canal.

As soon as Mecca went away and it was shown that Allah did not protect it, the Islamic hordes would dry up and blow away.

Links on this page to her radio interview where she describes what the Muslims did to the Christians in Lebanon and how she is only alive because Israelis saved her family.

-To Your Question,--yes.

A Generation of "Relief" from "Islam" is JUST "What we Need" to acquire a bit of "Perspective!"

Absent that "Perspective," we MUST ASSUME that "Islam" Has & Will attempt to DESTROY WESTERN CULTURE!!

"Islam" CERTAINLY HAS NOT made ANY Attempt to "Preserve &/or Protect" Western Culture.

Sadly, the "Purveyors of Islam" have REPEATEDLY STATED, "ISLAM UBER ALLES!!"

MOST Rational People have Concluded that "Radical Islam" is a form of Sociopathy similar to "Naziism."

After WWII, MOST Americans will NEVER ACCEPT ANY Political Philosophy that--even Vaguely--resembles ANY FORM of nationalized Socialism.

THAT's WHY "Hillary's Nationalized Healthcare" "BOMBED SO BADLY!!"

There are NON-ANTI-Socialistic Plans for "HealthCare" Becoming Available (DESPITE opposition by Mr Kerry et. al.) involving "Medical Savings Accounts."

"Health Savings Accounts,(Medical Savings Accounts) REMOVE ANY "Control" of a Patients Medical Care from the Insurance Companies!

90% of "subscribers" to Insurance Plans--once they Understand how "MSA's/HSA's" work-- WANT this form of Health Insurance.

"The Motto;" Americans are NOT STUPID!!

What could be a plausible scenario is that Al Qeuida, fristrated by its inability to strike in the US, launches a major attack in France or Germany. THis galvanizes Europe to realize the threat is real, and must be confronted..

I would agree with your premises if the duynamics of the coming conflict were as simple (simple!) as those of the First American Civil War. But we're not talking about state vs state here, with borders, boundaries and battle lines so nicely drawn. The battle lines will be everywhere and there will be no rules of engagement. Others have spoken of the coming conflict as that of a 'dirty war' - look to the conflicts in the Balkans and in South America for examples. So, no - I just don't see a secession of states as the point of departure, but I can certainly envision succession and realignment as part of a possible outcome.

Here's the thing - the cultural divides that separate the 'red zones' and the 'blue zones' are deep, irreconcilable and irreparable. It's a battle line that, to paraphrase Solzhenitsyn, has been drawn across each every every human heart.

When your opponents lack the price of admission to civilized debate: a respect for reason, belief in objective truth, and a willingness to admit they're wrong when the facts prove it so - what then? When your opponents' goals are to destroy the very foundation of your culture and your society - and to offer nothing in return but the howling nightmare of a society of cannibals and looters - what then? When your opponents seize and indoctrinate your children's' minds in the politics of victimization and the nobility of human servitude and sacrifice - what then? When the institutions of higher learning are occupied by Marxist multiculturalists who despise the very philosophical foundation upon which the architecture of liberty and human dignity can be constructed - what then? We know the answer - as Samuel P. Huntington has said, "History shows that no country so constituted can long endure as a coherent society."

Sadly, I have been thinking that the US is eerily like the latter daysof the Roman Empire for about 5 years now. The major difference being that Caesar has been replaced with "Big Government" and just as in Rome, you can worship whomever you want, as long as you pay homage to "Caesar" as well...remember what did the roman empire in, open borders and a lack of concern by the common man to be interested in preserving it...can you say "Pax Americana"....

1. Our population continues to increase.

More through immigration than births. When it becomes 51% foreigners who can vote, it ceases to be America, if they haven't adopted American ideals.

2. They still teach civics in school, right?

Why, yes they do. But they don't teach "government" or "American culture." They teach that the Second Amendment is about states having militias (the National Guard) and that people have a "right" to affordable health care and housing, living wages, education, and so forth. They teach that Clinton's impeachment was about sex. They teach that evil, greedy globalist corporations are ruining the environment by causing global warming, but at least all women have the unquestioned right to an abortion. They also teach that "the whole point of politics, the whole point of government, is to improve the lives of the governed. There is no other reason for it."

3. Radical Islam will most likely destroy themselves and the host countries before they could even touch US.

This just in: They have already touched US - Sept. 11, 2001. Please do try to keep up.

You're zero for three.

If there are any signs which show this type of backlash, the US government will not allow it.

And the idea that terrorists will strike malls, campuses, busses or cinemas is realistic. It will happen and they will suceed mainly because security is absent in those areas. We should be learning from other people's experiences, but we continue to only try to improve on our own experiences. For example, terrorists used planes to blow up the WTC, so we try to improve airport security (which is still a joke anyways), but we do not improve security at public places like malls, even though malls have been a target in other places in the world by these very same terrorists.
