I would venture to say that most children of 20 years ago or more turned out better than the majority of children today. All children, at one time or another, are withdrawn, sad, irritable, tearful, et cetera.

I would say that the chance for an incorrect diagnosis is much, much higher with such a young child, who cannot yet well express his or her feelings in words. It's more than just ridiculous, it's careless and dangerous. And it leads to adults who cannot work themselves out of even the slightest problem, because they get taught that pills will fix their issues.

Of course, more children, years ago, had a mommy and a daddy and didn't need mind-altering drugs.

And moreso when they've been daycared since birth, half are living with divorce and who knows how many of their parents are drinkers or dopers.

That's just it --- part of being a young child is to act sort of mentally ill --- I think people today have kids but didn't grow up with many younger siblings or cousins so they actually don't know what is normal behavior in a child. A two year old acts manic depressive because that's normal for them. A completely normal 8 year old can throw a big fit that would be crazy for an adult. Kids shouldn't be put on medications unless they have some really extreme symptoms and are carefully diagnosed.

Errr, it's those same children of 20 years ago who are the parents of these pre-schoolers.
