Some of my friends wonder about why he left his boat, (as commander it's a Navy abandonment) and other than the Purple Hearts who put him up for the medals? Himself?

I think Kerry left because he didn't want to be there in the first place. Also, I think he lost his nerve and wanted out asap, but he had to find an "honorable" way out. I was glad to hear the PCF guys term it bugging out. More should be made of it. I know I would be pissed if I saw a guy weasel his way out on some technicality while leaving the rest of us behind.

On the PH procedure, I am sure it was handled through normal channels including the meidcal folks processing the paperwork. Probably the CO had to endorse the application to verify that it was connected to a combat operation. It would be interesting to see how Kerry worked the system after Hibbard turned him down. He obviously waited until he was transferred and then used the new CO (Eliott) somehow. He could have initiated the request calling some sort of oversight at his last assignment. That is why we need all the records.

I disagree. Going after Kerry for earning his medals while committing war crimes is a dog that will hunt. No way Americans will elect a war criminal. If can paint him as being a psyho like Captain Kurtz in Apocolpyse Now, we will destroy him.
