I think we can all agree on that part. The Guiness probably should have waited until after the formal service as well.

But I can speak from experience that when hearing people pontificate about "God's will" at a funeral or wake for someone who is non-religious, there's a temptation to retort rather roughly.

Many people feel as you do. If they don't believe God's will had anything to do with a sad or tragic event,or if they do not believe in God,they resent what they consider to be "pontification" from those that do believe.

People who feel that way usually respond by denigrating the "pontificator" or the content of the message. This is a very human thing to do and the brother of Pat Tillman reacted pretty much in accord with a belief system that tends to secular humanism.

It's all very interesting and would certainly have been edifying if someone close to Pat might have explained how he developed his commendable commitment to man and country. I can't help but wonder if he considered that he might lose his life so early.
