So Tillman's atheism makes it less of a sacrifice? What's the point of the article??

So Tillman's atheism makes it less of a sacrifice? He didn't say Pat was an atheist, just that he wasn't religious. I'd be curious to know what Pat believed, not that it matters much now.

When my son's platoon went out on patrol in Iraq they would get together and pray before they left. When faced with immenent death, you will call on Gods grace and help.

Tillman was a thinking and, it appears, rather complicated man, not easy to stereotype. His brother's profanity strikes me as being an understandable expression of bitterness only, not necessarily an expression of true knowledge of Tillman's deepest beliefs. Even a man's brother does not know in full what that man believes in his heart.

Not at all. Indeed, if he was an agnostic (it doesn't say "atheist" it says nonreligious) one can say it was
more of a sacrifice. In that case he wouldn't expect any heavenly reward.
Certainly it suggests that one can be a patriot and a hero without believing that we are "One Nation, Under God".

I guess Tillman's brother read the Ted Rall cartoon.

What the Chronicle is trying to say (and is dedicated to saying) is that there is nothing in life sweeter or more proper than anal sex.

I never cease to be amazed at the cretins who would post comments about homosexuality and anal sex on a thread such as this.

"Tillman wasn't an icon anymore. He was a man you wanted to know, to spend time with, to lift a Guinness alongside. But that had become impossible, the price of war, because his brother was right. Pat is dead. He's f -- ing dead. "
There ya go.... thats the point of this whole story, its anti-war. From an entire memorial service Ms Knapp selected a few quotes, out of context, in an attempt to dull Tillman's "Hero" patina. She dismisses his patriotism and courage as just another example of Tillman pushing the envelope. Perhaps she is auditioning for a job with Jennings and Koppel at ABC.
BTW, his younger brother Rich did not say Pat was an athetist, he simply said he wasn't religious. Big difference. Also, the brother who enlisted with Pat is named Kevin.

What I'd like to see somebody write about is how ESPN cut their broadcast at the very moment Tillman's parents were to be presented with an American flag!

"Pat isn't with God,'' he said. "He's f -- ing dead. He wasn't religious. So thank you for your thoughts, but he's f -- ing dead.''
Pat's brother was more right than people think. If Pat was not "religious", he may in fact just be "f---ing dead".....or worse. God bless his brother and give him the knowledge that surpassing all understanding.
