Considering Ted Williams was a skilled fighter pilot, a great ballplayer, and an atheist himself, it shouldn't be shocking if someone like Tillman was the same. Doesn't diminish the other things one bit.

What I'd like to see somebody write about is how ESPN cut their broadcast at the very moment Tillman's parents were to be presented with an American flag!

I was there at the ceremony. That's what he said.

Here is the link to the ComPost article about Tillman....an objective article.
The SFran writer was "challenging" us to love the lesbian/gay lifestyle
Her article was mostly hogwash ...Tillman went dressed as a woman to his God Son's ceremomy as a joke because the kid had two GodFathers and no godmother.
Man, I despise liberals.
God will Bless Pat Tillman

Yup, a ridiculous assertion on her part.
Pat Tillman was a character and loved life.
The man married his high school sweetheart. We should be so lucky.

Many people feel as you do. If they don't believe God's will had anything to do with a sad or tragic event,or if they do not believe in God,they resent what they consider to be "pontification" from those that do believe.
People who feel that way usually respond by denigrating the "pontificator" or the content of the message. This is a very human thing to do and the brother of Pat Tillman reacted pretty much in accord with a belief system that tends to secular humanism.
It's all very interesting and would certainly have been edifying if someone close to Pat might have explained how he developed his commendable commitment to man and country. I can't help but wonder if he considered that he might lose his life so early.

I noticed that too, outrageous.

"Pat isn't with God,'' he said. "He's f -- ing dead. He wasn't religious. So thank you for your thoughts, but he's f -- ing dead.''
Pat's brother was more right than people think. If Pat was not "religious", he may in fact just be "f---ing dead".....or worse. God bless his brother and give him the knowledge that surpassing all understanding.

I'd never respond that way myself, nor would I have at that age. Most people don't. 99.9% of the time it's meant to be consoling, or it's said because someone doesn't know what else to say. It's just worth noting that when both the deceased and the mourner(s) in question aren't religious, it's not exactly a comment that will console them.
His commitment likely developed in the same way so many others' do, based on what this nation is and the values it has come to stand for. I find it a little disturbing when people try to imply that to be truly patriotic, one must be religious. I'd say that the 1954 revision of the Pledge does strongly imply this, and that's why I support its reversal.

But would they still disagree after this mortal body is lying out there reduced to worm food? If those folks are right, then bon apetit, worms.
If They are wrong, those hungry worms will only be the beginning of their woes.
Maybe I am just chicken, but I can't even comprehend eternity, much less the idea of spending it being punished for being stupid.

Yet they can comprehend this whole mind boggling thing called here and now, coming together all by itself with out one iota of intellegent guidance.
Which is the greater leap?

I hope Pat is in Heaven. Jesus said "There is no greater love than a man give his life for his brother," which is exactly what Pat Tillman did...
I can see God taking Pat into His arms as He did the thief on the cross.
