Holding all Canadians responsible for garbage like this is pretty much on the same level as blaming all Americans for the Clintons.

Try thinking of Canada as a cautionary example - although it's not like this sort of stuff or similar isn't going on stateside. As example, gender-based hate crimes occur daily in so-called "family" Courts on both sides of the border.

The major differences are that, because of the two nations' respective political structures, the left largely must advance its agenda on a state-by-state basis in the U.S. and, of course, the protection of fundamental freedoms afforded by the (God Bless America!) U.S. Constitution.
