BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - U.S. troops battling insurgents in west Baghdad pounded rebel positions with artillery fire Monday, the Army said.
Troops from the Army's 1st Cavalry Division called for artillery support, and the division's gunners opened fire, launching a series of rounds from 155mm self-propelled Paladin artillery pieces, said Lt. Col. James Hutton.
The series of eight or more heavy blasts caused by the shelling could be heard in central Baghdad Monday night.
Hutton had no information on casualties or the nature of the fighting.

If you're going to be one, you'd better be a Big Red One.
God Bless our troops.

The Big Red One is the 1st Infantry Division, not the First Cavalry Division.

That it is.
Seems they want to try to create problems in false hopes of 'stirring up the locals' to join their 'cause'.

indeed, it does seem to be. why use artillery, aren't air strike more effective?
To: Ernest_at_the_Beach
I believe most of the insurgency in Baghdad is from western Baghdad in collusion with Sadr militia men.
A bunch of Fallujans moved to settle in Western Baghdad after April 9, 2003.
