I recall reading that some of the Germans in SE Asia, shall we say, reverted to some of their previous methods. No doubt it was bad apples, not representative...but its enough to make you go, Hmmph.

I remember reading where the ex-SS types were quite effective. When the road was mined, they'd just head into the closest village and grab a bunch of locals to strap on the lead vehicles. Someone always seemed to "remember" where the mines were.

They quickly learned that this only worked when they used locals; the dinks at the next village didn't give a hoot about the ones from the last village.

I wish I remember the name of the book. It was great.
