I saw her interviewed here. I thought she was snooty and obnoxious and I was hoping she got muddy.

Hi Trinity. The weather broke here (unfortunately, not before we were half drowned) just in time for the running of the Derby. Still, it's great to be here. Been a long time since I was here for the Derby (!977 when Seattle Slew won). My hair is a mess though and I'm debating whether to even mess with it before we get to the hotel in Eureka Springs tomorrow. Seems kinda pointless to fix the hair just to spend 9 hours driving.

"will break with the pics about 6:00 EST for 'My Old Kentucky Home'"

That part always gets me choked up.

"the most wonderful high in the world is riding atop a galloping horse!"

I'll second that.

"Just can't get to likin' those juleps"

I can drink them, but they are highly overrated in my opinion. I prefer a blue margsrita any day.

LOL For sure. My trainer lent me a dressage performance video to show him. I knew the beauty of it wouldn't overcome his bias, but I had hoped the discipline would.

Unfortunately, all he could do was compare Real Cowboys with the "sissified" performer. (I cannot remember the guy's name.. it was the brit who was so famous about 5 years ago.)

"Tuned in and bettin' on Smarty Jones"

Turned out to be a good bet, eh, Hair? Great race. His really is a neat story....even if he is a yankee horse.

"Think Jessica can spell "horse"?"

When they interviewed the silly b*tch, they asked her if the Derby was about the horses or about looking good and she said it was about looking good. She's about as shallow as a parking lot puddle.

Not a Saturday.

Not five weeks after the first Saturday in May.

And not June 9th.

Hey you : )

The first thing I thought after hearing about the weather was, "oh those poor women are gonna be in a major frustration over all those ruined hairdos." lol Even a hat can't save ya from the humidity-induced meltdown.

Have a safe drive!

For horse lovers like us, it's about the horses and tradition. But I think for most of the women there, it's a purely social thing. Seeing and being seen.

Like the Ascot.

She is about the most vapid woman I have seen on TV since I can remember.

My wife insists she's conservative voting and married as a virgin....maybe but she needs some tutoring on just simple stuff. It's embarrassing.

I originally posted this on another thread before the Derby:

My father always spoke of "S" horses winning the Derby -- Secretariat, Sunday Silence, Spectacular Bid (off the top of my head).

This year we've got Smarty Jones, Song of the Sword...

And Dad was right again.

List of "S" winners since '73:
1973: Secretariat
1977: Seattle Slew
1979: Spectacular Bid
1983: Sunny's Halo
1984: Swale
1985: Spend A Buck
1989: Sunday Silence
1991: Strike The Gold
1993: Sea Hero
1997: Silver Charm
2004: Smarty Jones

I just read that they are traditionally buried " head, heart and hooves ".

Head for beauty, heart for courage, hooves for speed.

Many non-horse (and some horse) people do not know it is more instinctual for a horse to run in the middle of the heard, the safest place from predators, than at the front. It is a special stallion or lead mare that has the courage and intelligence to lead the herd from danger. Hence, a horse that's a winner, has "heart".
