Looks like a muddy slog today, I'll take Lionheart wire to wire with a late charge from Quintons Gold Rush.

Ok, 3catsanadog, reporting for Derby duty!
I like Smarty Jones, Tapit and The Cliff's Edge (I think that's his name).
Any fillies running?

Has the track cleared a bit yet?
Not sure about the red and white stripe outfit..

I went to the Derby in '93. My cousin was married to a horse trainer and he got us tickets. We were supposed to sit in the bleachers by the backfield by the stables but some miscommunication occurred and we ended up in the infield.
Don't have any idea why me or my family never got to the Derby beforehand.
My dad's brother moved to Louisville and set up law practice there after he got his degree and lived there till he died.
His daughter and her husband lived right across the street from Churchill Downs and made a small fortune every Derby Day letting people park in their yard.
Considering how passionate I was about horses and all, still can't figure out how I never got to the Derby till I was 42.

What are those people in the infield doing, Buffy?
To: 3catsanadog
That's ok. I live in Indianapolis and I never saw the Indianapolis 500 until I was 27, and haven't been back since.
I prefer listening to it on the radio and doing outside work while listening.

Hey Matrix - Thanks for the pics etc. Profoundlady and I are makin' beverages, picking hats and placing our bets in anticipation. Having your pics and the commentary certainly adds to the realism down here in ole'NC. You 'da Freeper...

Not yet, when it gets closer to race time, you can post it in breaking news if you like at about 5PM ET when the NBC broadcast comes on.
There is always a live race thread, I just like the pre race the best..
To: threat matrix
For those who have cable or satellite, ESPN has been running pre-Derby races and commentary, and will continue to do so until the coverage switches to NBC. They will re-broadcast the race after NBC's coverage ends.

The rain hasnt dampened the spirit of the hats much..

But, but what happens if I start a Derby thread and someone else starts a Derby thread???? Which one is the Official Free Republic Kentucky Derby thread?
I don't usually start threads - I'm too shy.
Pleaaase, help me!!!

Thanks MM for the broadcast updates, I watched this morning at the Derby on ESPN2!
To: 3catsanadog
Yours will be the official race thread, mine's just the pre race party thread.
Just wait about 90 minutes or so, you can do it!
To: threat matrix
I hope that everyone knows that Freeper "Peach" has a horse in the Derby today by the name of Limehouse.

I linked to the second page of comments, just go to the first page where Peach states that she/he has Limehouse in the Derby today.
To: tertiary01
I heard them talking about Limehouse at the top of the pre show, impressive!
