Much like the Israelis, you better realize that the 'bible-thumpers' are the best friends you've got in times like these.

I'm a God-fearing Catholic. "Bible thumpers" are a small minority of scientifically-ignorant fundamentalist Protestants who operate more out of fear of the intellectual than out of conviction. They are no more my "best friends" than fundamentalist Moslems, and for pretty much the same reasons -- both groups want to turn back progress because the rest of the world has pretty much passed them by.
