When you hear a host story from someone who experienced it first hand, there is no mistaking it. You can see it in their eyes.
Check back next Halloween and I'll recount the one from Fallon, Nevada that an old man told me.

I experienced a "cold spot" once, while out walking late on a hot, humid summer night. It was in the center of a crossroad in a dark suburban neighborhood. I was about 20 years old.
It was really cold, in an area about 15 feet across. I lingered there for a few minutes, criss-crossing the area to convince myself it was real. It was too dark to see if my breath was condensing.

No it was a courthouse. With lawyers and judges
I know. They're the ones that did the hanging.

OK, my turn...
A few years ago, I woke up at about 3 AM, hearing some loud music playing, the bass part anyway. After laying there for a few minutes, wondering why anyone would be having a party at 3 o'clock on a Thursday morning in my quiet niehghborhood, I finally decided to get up and let the dog out. I went downstairs, and opened the back door to see if I could tell where the music was coming from.
After a few minutes, I realized that it was coming from my own garage.
I went out, and the key in my truck was turned back to the acc setting, and the radio was on full blast on a station that I never listen to. The garage door was down, and there is no way it could have come up without my knowing because the openner is mounted right below my bedroom floor.
There was no way that I could have left the radio on that loud all evening without anyone noticing. And no, this was before my daughter was born, just me and the wife in the house.
I didn't sleep well for a while after that, and still have not figured out what happened to this day.

I have no ghost stories to tell, but there is an interesting theory about origins of some ghosts.
A reported "ghost" may go through identical motions over and over through the years: for example, the figure of a woman in a long dress is seen walking down the stairs. There is a theory that very strong emotions can somehow imprint themselves within a room or even in an area outside. The idea is that a witness is not really seeing a ghost but some kind of videotape recording of the past. Sometimes, a witness may see nothing but hears mysterious sounds. There have been many reports of ghost armies marching or ghost battles fought dating as far back as the 17th century. I can't explain it and I don't think anyone can, but for some reason individuals, perhaps more sensitive than others or on anniversary dates or particular weather conditions, etc., can "see" or "hear" the past.
There also have been stories of apparent outright "time travel," which, being a historical buff, I find very interesting.

The house I live in right now is haunted.
When we first bought it, it needed a lot of work.
One day, I was in the house by myself upstairs laying tile. I found a couple of nails in the floor-boards that needed to be 9999pulled and didn't have a hammer.
I heard heavy foot-steps downstairs and assumed it was my contractor. So I yelled down to him that if he was coming up, would he please bring me a hammer?
I went back to my tile.
A moment later, I hear heavy boots on the stairs, coming up.
Not looking u I said, "Good morning, Lee! How are you
No answer. The boots continue on the stairs
So I look down the stairs and there's no one there.
EVERY hair on my arms u

Please add me to your ghost ping list too. I think reading Nancy Drew mysteries when I was young, got me hooked on spooky stories.
I live in a house built in 1925...for So. Ca it's old. The doorbell rings by itself at 1 and 2 in the morning and the toilet even flushes by itself sometimes. It's never creeped me out and I lived alone there for 7 years before I got married. Guess I figured that it was nice to have some company.

Later, the man explained why he'd wanted to leave the courthouse: He'd been working alone in the basement when he felt something tug his overalls. While I have my own ghosts stories, this reminded me of a very scary tug on my pant leg once. I had just moved into my first apartment so had gone out to the old family house to get some stuff I'd stored and to "borrow" finds to furnish my new place. No one lived there much except for the occasional weekend so there were 3 locks on the back door. I had loaded up and was trying to get all the padlocks locked and fumbling with the keys all without dropping wire clothes hangers so was getting frustrated because I wanted to get on the road ahead of the rainstorm. The wind blowing like mad wasn't helping as it was flapping the old screen door against me when I felt my pant leg get caught in the screen. Try as I might, kicking the door away didn't release my leg. There I was praying not to drop locks, keys, hangers, the wind blowing hair in my face and fighting the screen that keep tightening on my pant leg. Finally, the last padlock clicked and I reached down to unhook my leg .... I was 30 feet across the yard. I swear, I don't remember running but *pow* I was at the other side of the yard. It wasn't the screen door tugging on my pant leg but a snake, a racer, that had wound itself around almost both legs in a figure eight. The stoop was shy of 6 foot across and he was stretched across it and headed down so he was a big fellow. With all the jingling of keys and hangers, banging doors, and me kicking, I don't know why he didn't bite. I'll tell y'all about his cousin and the toilet one day, lol.

The closest I can come to a ghost story: My father was a Civil War buff and used to buy authentic period clothing for us to wear to re-enactments. I tried on an antique silk top that was to be worn with a matching full skirt. I was latching the hook-and-eyes and felt someone squeeze my ribcage hard. I took that thing off so fast you'd have never known I had it on. Never touched the outfit after that. :o)
