Gentleman John Edwards

The Southern Spectator "Hedges" the Election by Supporting Gentleman John Edwards, the Senator from NC, for VP Nominee

By the Southern Spectator Editorial Staff

Major news outlets have been reporting that Kerry's campaign has begun background checks of top running mate prospects including gentleman John Edwards, the Senator from North Carolina, Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack, and a handful of other possible VP nominees. Normally the staff of the Southern Spectator would yawn about this development, but this year there is too much at stake for the common, everyday American.

While the Southern Spectator fully supports President George W. Bush for a second term, the editorial staff of this web site also endorses gentleman John Edwards, the Senator from North Carolina, for the Democratic nominee for Vice President. The reasoning behind this endorsement is simple - should Kerry win there will be at least some consolation in having gentleman John Edwards as Vice President since he is charismatic, eloquent, well dressed, and is generally the type of man that the people can be proud of having in office. Gentleman John Edwards tempers the liberalism of Kerry since John Edwards has the roots of a common man. Being the son of a factory worker and the first in his family to go to college, gentleman John Edwards understands the struggles of the blue collar American and this can be a great benefit to the nation. While Kerry points to Wall Street as an indicator of the nation's viability, gentleman John Edwards points to Main Street USA.

Merian Webster's Dictionary defines the word "hedge" as, "a means of protection or defense (as against financial loss)." In the 2004 Presidential election having gentleman John Edwards as the nominee for Vice President works to hedge conservatives and working class Americans from suffering a complete political loss should Bush lose. Our nation simply cannot afford to gamble on a President Kerry without having a Vice President John Edwards - a Vice President with common sense that will protect the interests of us regular folks.

In short, if we cannot have Bush, at least give us gentleman John Edwards, the Senator from North Carolina.

Edwards isn't sleazy enough to be Lurch's 2nd mate.

Edwards is neither a gentleman nor a scholar.
He's an opportunistic, phony shyster. Don't be suckered.

Don't think Kerry will choose Edwards. Kerry is too egotistical and Kerry doesn't want competition. Besides, Edwards has very little experience. It will be either Gephardt or Vilsack.

I think Kerry will pick Gephardt. That will help shore up the union vote (who have questions over Kerry on defense and the present war), will give Kerry a midwestern partner, plus Gephardt is willing to campaign down and dirty.

Edwards is too fresh acting to pull off the down and dirty job.

Yup that is what I think too. But the DUers will not be happy with that one. They want Clark of all people.

Oh yes he is and he's ambitious too.
You realize, his run for the presidency was
ALL about the vice-presidency, right?

Evan Baye or Joe Liebermann would make for a better straddle. The longer Edwards talked, the more I thought he sounded like a Bob Shrum Bolshevik.

Actually, there's a real reason why Kery hasn't yet announced his VP choice..no one will accept it, because if he's NOT the nominee, well, talk about being embarrassed..

I realize that all too well.

Edwards may fool people who aren't from his adopted home state of NC.
He doesn't fool this North Carolinian, though.

Another vote for phony shyster. Trial lawyer slime that will come in handy should Kerry be elected. The commission to investigate the US adopting the Muslim faith will get the definitive definition of the word 'is' from Edwards.

this web site also endorses gentleman John Edwards

Gentleman John Edwards sounds like a cheap bourbon, which may be fitting for Edwards. I've never heard "Gentleman John" applied to him before. "Hypocrite", "Ambulance chaser", "Tax Dodger", "Left-wing", "Liberal", and "Empty Suit" are some of the printable forms of address.

you're right of course. But I'm glad he's not going to be the nominee. I think he would have been far more formidable an opponent than John De, er, Howard Kerry, er John F'n Kerry.

"The reasoning behind this endorsement is simple - should Kerry win there will be at least some consolation in having gentleman John Edwards as Vice President since he is charismatic, eloquent, well dressed, and is generally the type of man that the people can be proud of having in office."

So, the qualification for leadership of the world's only super power is now "well dressed"?!? Is there anything in this endorsement that has any substance? "generally the type of man" we can be proud of. What does this mean? Southern Spectator try getting someone to look at the ISSUES. Then decide who should be in office.
