I'm going to have to call you on that one. Spellcheck is a crutch; just like canned food is a crutch for people too stupid or lazy to learn how to cook.

What you're advising this [obvious troll] idiot is to eat canned food for the rest of his life.

On the other hand, I type over 100 words per minute. The last typing test I performed, ages ago, was a standard five-minute test, which is brutal. My score was 109wpm, with three errors total.

My point is, that for a person like myself, spellcheck is not a crutch but a tool, for quickly ferreting out the typos that inevitably crop up. For idiots like the within troll, it's a guarantee of permanent illiteracy.

Maybe it's a crutch. However, I have found myself struggling to remember a word that I don't normally use. I know that it is the most appropriate word for what I'm trying to convey, but sometimes I get a brain fart, and I need a dictionary, or spell check. I have found myself substituting other words instead of the one that came to mind, just to lower the frustration level.

I wish I could type 100 wpm. When I get going, it's usually 60-70 wpm. I rely on spell check when I'm uncertain about a word. I'll review my posts and a word just doesn't look right, so I run it through spell check.

I know what you're saying about literacy levels. It's good manners to at least try and post a coherent post on a message board, so let them use spell check...
