True, we could use more armored Humvees in theater. However, the Humvee was never intended to replace armored personnel carriers. It was intended to replace the Jeep.
If I'm wrong, I'm certainly open to anyone correcting me.

You have that correct. It was meant to replace 5 vehicles and none of them were armored.
It was doing what it was intended to. I understand when you drop a ton or two of armor on them, they have a horrendous break down rate.
