Our pediatrician put our son on Straterra. At first, it seemed to be working well, but he never ate. Then a few months later, he constantly had a stomach ache. We took him to the doctor and it turned out there was a new Straterra out because the previous version was reported to be presenting problems. Last summer, my wife and I decided to just take him off the meds because we were never truly convinced that he had ADD. He was also very skinny and almost seemed to stop growing. He has since had a growth spurt and he eats all the time.

My son isn't on the meds because of inattention. I could work with that. He has ZERO impulse control. He can NOT control his behavior at times. His problems are compounded by sleep difficulties. He has dysgraphia and some kind of learning disability in the are of writing.

When we finally gave in on the meds, my husband and son had NO relationship left, my daughters and I were beginning to be afraid of my son, my daughters were being cheated of my attention, and my family was beginning to fall apart. He has been a constant stress on our family since he turned a year old.

He managed to compensate for his problems while in school as he is a borderline genius, but as he got into the upper elementary classes, compensating no longer worked.

The medication has saved my family, and I refuse to accept the judgement of ignorant people who have never lived through this.
